Hello everyone!
I've been told to come here to post information about my band Capharnaüm so that you guys can discover what we're doing!
We are an intrumental band from Montreal, Canada creating progressive-rock-ambiant music.
I have posted 2 videos on youtube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uJjsXuv8RFA&feature=user
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mgn31BBEgz8
Feel free to comment on them and visit our website at
http://www.capharnaum.biz
and also our MySpace at
http://www.myspace.com/capharnaum4music
There's some songs posted there as well and you can buy our album, Le Soleil Est Une Bombe Atomique from there too if you like the music.
Hope to hear from you guys soon!

Welcome to the forum. Stéphan, this is really good. I like your website too. I'm currently listening to Tokamak and I'm downloading Atomic Disco now. I'll be back later with some more of my thoughts!

Very cool tunes! Though i admit i'm sort of a sucker for anything ambient-related (and being the Rush fan i am, i'm also a sucker for any prog rock candadians...). have you always done ambient? how does the recording process different for that style vs. more traditional arrangements?

Stephan:
Welcome to the Forum. I particularly like Feedback & Delirium from your website. I'm a progger myself & this stuff is right up my alley.
According the Google Translate Caphernaum means Capernaum in English. Capernaum "was a settlement on the shore of the Sea of Galilee. The site is a ruin today, but was inhabited from 150 BC to about AD 750.", from WikiPedia.

OK, I don't speak French.
According to Google Tranlate, he said,
"
But you are Quebequois, right? My buddies!
Ca va? I
love these tunes ... It works! It's fantastic
. Q'est what happens?"
Here's the URL for your future translation needs.

Just another example of what people working together can do. (Ha Ha)
More info from WikiPedia...
'The town is mentioned in the New Testament: in the Gospel of Luke it was reported to have been the home of the apostles Peter, Andrew, James and John, as well as the tax collector Matthew. In Matthew 4:13 the town was reported to have been the home of Jesus himself. According to Luke 4:31-44, Jesus taught in the synagogue in Capernaum on the sabbath days. In Capernaum also, Jesus allegedly healed a man who had the spirit of an unclean devil and healed a fever in Simon Peter's mother-in-law. According to Matthew 8:5-13, it is also the place where a Roman Centurion asked Jesus to heal his servant. A building which may have been a synagogue of that period has been found beneath the remains of a later synagogue."

Feedback is my favorite track from all of this. I love the groove, and especially dig the guitar part starting at :45 seconds. \m/ I seriously have been humming these tunes all week at work. You guys really know how to work with subtlety. Amazing stuff.

I have to say that I'm generally a bigger fan of vocal music, this moved me just as much as any DT or Queensryche song. Beautiful tunes!

Hey guys! Sorry about the lack of communication, I've been pretty busy with all sort of stuff! (Special thanks goes to François for the heads up
)
Thanks for the welcome messages and thanks a lot for the positive feedback! I really appreciate!
Ok let me try to get back on track!
@KevinMakesMusic:
Thanks for your comments!
About the ambient question, the band Capharnaum, to my knowledge did only this since the beginning in 1991.
About the recording process, I'll leave this to François. I just joined the band since last may so, I have yet to experience that myself! But I'll keep you postet for sure!
@LeVoyageur:
Merci mon cher! T'es de France? (Translation: Thanks dear! You're from France?)
@Brian Dobbs:
Sorry, I'm not a Trek fan so I'll take this as a compliment!
That's some nice comments you posted in there! A big warm thanks!
@Newton:
Glad you like Capharnaüm music!
Capharnaüm is the name of a small city in Palestine where there's a huge marketplace.
@Aswepe:
Thanks for the welcomes! Glad the music makes you feel right! Thanks for clarifying our name's meaning!
@Meridian1928:
Man, you just made my day with your comments!
I welcome all comments towards the music you hear on the MySpace and official website as a member of the band but a part of them needs to be given to Phillipe-Antoine's creativity, the former bass player of the band.
I am committed to bring as much creativity in our next release and I will gladly let you know about the progress in form of a studio diary form.
Spread the word about us if you feel like it, that would be awesome!
Make sure to visit the Music section of the official website also, there a few other sound clips!
Talk to ya later guys!

Just for the sake of being understood by everyone, I'll answer in english only ok?
Unfortunately, I don't have the chance to have visited europe... YET!!
My age? We range between 30 and 37 years old.
My new bass, a Warwick Infinity, is the bomb and I never had the chance to play a nice piece of instrument as this one!
Plus, I bought also one hell of a amplification system! An AMPEG SVT 4 Pro with 2 6x10" cabs deployong a whoping 1200 watt of pure decibels! Yup! I kill people with this baby! heheh
As for my spoken language, yup,I'm a french speaker who tries to be better with my english!
Stay tuned!

Here is a pic from the recording session of "Le soleil est une bombe atomique", a wild place in St-Zenon (2 hours north east of Montreal), very fantastic place to record and in winter, even more nice!
For the next album we also plan to go there but nothing yet prepare for that. We have to be fully ready before entering in the studio

Hey Stephan,
I have finally been able to watch the videos off of Utube: great job! I'm listening to Feedback right now off of your myspace page. I'm loving the guitars and their tone. Wow that was cool: one of the guitars came in from the right faintly. Great dynamics. I love the guitar solos when the song gets quiet, and then it goes into a nice jam with everyone. Again, very good dynamics: this song has great ups and downs regarding what is being played and how loudly it is played. Awesome part when the drums start doing the off beat on the hihat: the guitar part is very cool there! Ooooooh, nice dueling guitar solo!
Sweet song man!
Warm Regards,
Tim

Thanks buddy! I wish I had composed the bass lines on this one! Pretty cool stuff!
About the dynamics, yes, there are plenty in every Capharnaüm songs and will always be as it's really what makes instrumental stands on its own IMO.
Dynamics are the front element you need to get the audience attention I think, among all other aspects!
Glad you like the music! I can't wait to 1) do another live gig 2) record the new album 3) shoot our promo video in the upcoming months!
Right now, I'm learning the last song on the list before fully working on the new album with François and the others!
That's why I'm not posting often these days, I'm very busy! hehe

Glad you're excited about it! But you'll have to wait until '09 to watch it!
In the meantime, I just finished learning a new track from the upcoming CD and another one is on it's way to completion later this week! I use the word "learning" because there were some track that already had the bass composed. The guys told me I could put my personal touch and I have but it's very subtle! These bass tracks were brilliant as they were!
After this last one, it'll be fresh new grounds for me and the rest of the band because any other song will have its bass track created from scratch!
Tonight, I'm meeting with Max, the drummer and François, one of the guitarist to rehearse what I've learned so far to adjust, tweak the songs and of course, jam everything I know from the band's catalogue since my debut!
I'll keep you posted!
