Hey everyone, just wanted to start this topic on the subject of my band’s upcoming recording studio venture.  I’ll be tracking drums this weekend for 5 new songs.  Hopefully I’ll be able to give frequent updates as we get further and further in the recording process.

As for now, here’s a picture of my guitarist Kevin with the engineer Brian Potts.  Kevin is also known as “KevinMakesMusic” on this forum.

That was swweeettt!

The only time I hate being a drummer is when I have to either tear down or make 10 trips up the stairs to load or unload! I don't mind setting up though.  Cheesy

i'm actually interested in hearing the drums solo'd as well.  For our upcoming album we'll be offering stereo stems of the music, which will essentially isolate each instrument.  I don't think I dig the snare sound we got unfortunately, so it might have to be sampled/replaced.  We'll see.

Hi Brian,

Cool to see your kit. I changed my setup a month ago and put one of my floor toms to the left like you did with yours. I love this!! It is very useful for me when trying to play melodically and helps to give new ideas.

Hope you'll find something to do with you snare sound. It's an important part of a overall drum sound!

Hope you liked your recording experience!!

You drum really looks great, I'd like to hear how it sounds. Good luck for the next session!!

Dangig, do you have any pics of your new setup?

Here's the first video of my tracking session.  Audio sounds over-modulated.  oh well.

Here are some pictures of my kit (new setup).

I've had my basic Taye kit for about 4 years now (and I love it more day after day). I like to change the way it is configured, so this is what it looks like for now! I know I have a lot of things, but I always try to keep in mind basic principals of music :
- Less Is More (easy to say with a kit like that haha)
- Play for the music

cool setup Dangig.  Long hair too!  \m/.

Here's a 30 second clip of one of our new tunes.  This has a harsh sound to it, so I must warn you.  The recording you'll hear is the live drums which I recorded in December, backed by MIDI guitar and bass, and backed again by a really loud click.  It's essentially what I hear when I record.

I'm a bit curious. Seems you prefer a "flat" constant click which doesn't mark odd-time signatures while recording, may I ask why?

Well that's just it...this song changes time sigs a few times.  This one in particular, although you can't really tell from this clip, has the following time sigs...

4/4
15/16
6/8

to program accents would be way too much work, so I just go with the straight click and no accents.  My guitarist Kevin actually came up with the backing tracks so I just told him straight 16ths the whole time.

Hey Marc, thanks for the MySpace request and for checking the stuff out here.  Glad you dig the tunes.  We have 5 songs in the works, due out sometime this year.  :-)  We're recording guitars next week.

Yes Brian, I really dug the kind of music you guys are creating! Just to show you that i'm not telling you bullshit, have a peek at this video that I recorded back in 2005 or so while reheasing with my older band. I'm pretty sure that you will find some similarities between your music and the song you will hear, which is a tune I composed.

http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=1077927302814

Though you can't clearly see it, I'm the one at the far left, just by the amplifier stack. The other one that you see poping in the frame is Marc Rivest who still plays with me in our current project with Stephan. The rest of the band is entirely new. The song you hear will probably be officially recorded in the upcoming weeks; now having a whole band to perfom everything, it's a great chance for me to get some of my songs a nice facelift! lol

Tell what you think about the tune!

Bye!

Pretty good studio vids by the way....!

Hahaha!

You know, when we will be able to post some vids of our own stuff, I'm pretty sure that some of those bad words will fly in from everywhere! We French Canadians have a very wide range of words to use when swearing! lollllll
