My name is Pete Laramee and I recently recorded a new instrumental disc called Childhood Memories.  http://cdbaby.com/cd/petelaramee2  More clips can be found here http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandID=811853&content=music  It is guitar oriented, progressive, melodic, hard/heavy rock.  This is my second solo CD.  My band, Kurgan's Bane has recorded three CDs.

We went to Secret Sound here in Baltimore (where we've recorded in the past) and my brother recorded all the drums.  Secret Sound gave me a rough mix of the drums along with a click and I imported them into my software.  I recorded some quick, rough tracks and sent them to Chicago where a bassist (Luis Nasser) recorded his parts in his home studio.  I worked on the remainder of the songs until I was happy and had another bassist (Michael Passen) come in to record those tracks with me.  Once I rec'd the bass tracks from Chicago I finished recording all the guitar tracks.

After all the tracks were recorded I decided to contact Derek Sherinian to see if he was interested in recording a few solos for me.  He was and he did.  Grin  He recorded in his studio in LA.

We then went back to Secret Sound to mix and master the disc.  I'm very proud of the music and production of this project.  I hope everyone will like it.

There are more links in my sig.

Hi there, Pete.  Those sound clips sound great.  That's incredible to hear that you actually got Derek Sherinian to play on your disc.  I absolutely love 13 stitches too.  Do you have any whole songs for download at all?

Also, is this you?  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Exh8gF7DwFc

Yes, that's me in the vid.

I have one song available for free download http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandID=811853&content=music

I always wanted to have Derek play on one of my CDs.  I just emailed him and he said he'd do it.

That's really awesome.  Was he a cool guy?  Did you get to speak with him on the phone?

He seemed like a nice guy.  I spoke to him 4 or 5 times.  The first time he was all business and wanted to make sure he understood what I wanted, but after that he seemed very friendly and personable.

That's cool.  Man, what a story though, to have Derek Sherinian play on your album!  I've listened to your album quite a few times now, and your cutting heads section is just awesome.

Pete:

Listening to 13 Stitches. Pretty good tune bro. I'm liking it. The section starting around 1:30 really gets the listener's attention. Nice. Great performances all around. Plenty of mood swings & dynamics (something my music is sorely lacking).

I will listen to the rest of your Soundclick offerings. Be advised that I want to use some of these songs on my radio show (Please see my initial post in the Welcome section).

I'll let you know - provided you want me to play your tunes.

Congrats - some great stuff!!

Just checked out the CDBaby page. LOVE the CD cover. That shows creative thinking.

Meridian1928, didn't you play bass on Pete's album?  What was it like?  Do you have any stories you'd like to share?  Is Pete really as cool as he sounds?

Jesus, with all these usernames it's hard to tell who's who.  That's why I stopped using "Johnny" and "Assmaster" a long time ago.  Grin

Michael, what was it like recording for Pete?  Will you be collaborating with him anymore in the future?

Pete, i love the guitar tone on your album.  I told Brian P (our engineer) that if my guitar sounded 1/2 that good for our recording, i'd be satisfied.  What amps did you use?

Listening now to "Red Rocks" just sounds great! Obviously hearing Derek Sherinian on your tracks it's far more than simply "amazing" Cheesy

Michael will be playing bass for about half of the upcoming "Pete Laramee's Brute Squad" show in December.  I'm very much looking forward to it.

Thanks man, I used my DSL which was modified by Voodoo Amps with their "deluxe mod."  I used my RG1527 with EVO7/Blaze neck into the DSL into a VHT Deliverance 4x12 with Celestion Greenbacks.  I had a noise gate and/or an MXR 10 band eq in the loop for a few tracks.

Yea - it was pretty cool to be able to get him to play some solos for me.  I've always loved his playing and his sound.  When I wrote that song a year or two ago I had it in my head I was going to ask him to play on it - not really thinking it would ever happen. Cheesy
